The Annual Dinner will take place at Gran-View Restaurant on Friday, November 2nd. Cocktails and a silent auction begin at 5 PM with dinner being served promptly at 6:30 PM. In an effort to keep the evening moving along, the awards ceremony and speeches will be limited as will the number of speakers. Tickets are $38 each with your entre choice of Prime Rib, Roasted Stuffed Chicken, or broilrd seafood platter. A vegetarian meal is available upon request. Dinner includes Gran-View’s famous salad, and relish tray with rolls, and an assortment of desserts. Each guest will receive a ticket for $1 off a drink of their choice. Please order your dinner tickets early since this promises to be a sold out dinner.
The Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that David Shea has been named the 2012 Citizen of the Year. Dave was raised here in the community by his parents Edmund and Sheila Shaw Shea and is a graduate of St. Mary's Academy and St. Lawrence University. Since joining the staff of the Ogdensburg Journal in the early 1970's, Dave has covered any number of national stories, but local stories seem to be where his heart lies. Dave's focus on local youth is evidenced by the endless pictures and positive stories he has shared with us over the years. Dave has never printed a negative article, no matter what the score might be, Dave finds a positive and highlights that for the readers. Dave Shea is an unassuming man who avoids the spotlight, today the Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce wishes to put the light squarely on him as he so richly deserves.
The Business Improvement Award for 2012 is awarded to Sean and Jill O'Brien of Ogdensburg Dance Center and Salon 1020, at 1020 Ford Street. Togetehr, this young couple renovated this location into a multi-service salon and multi-age dance studio. Along with renovating the interior to accomodate two businesses, the O'Briens have also made major improvements to the exterior by adding new windows, doors, siding, landscaping and a new parking area. Their new sign is a welcome sight on Ford Street.
The Outstanding Community Service Award is awarded to Carlisle, Carrothers & Clough, PC. With Preston Carlisle at its helm, this firm has given generously of their time and money to help improve the quality of life for the citizens of the greater Ogdensburg area. For decades, whether it be free legal advice, leadership on a committee or board of directors, or monitarily, the law firm has helped countless charities over the years.
In addition to the awards ceremony, the evening will include a silent and live auction.
